Attendance was actually *not* limited to invitations only, which is in fact the main thing that sets us apart from SciFoo. We did contact people to bring it to their attention, but many people also signed up after they read about SciBarCamp on a mailing list or blog somewhere, and we encouraged people to invite others they thought might be interested. &lt;br /&gt;That's how we managed to eventually get a wide variety of people, because we simply don't know everyone ourselves. &lt;br /&gt;About 15 people (including Jesse Greener, for example) signed up last minute when I forwarded the invitation to a lot of science departments at UofT. We didn't know them, but they found us anyway and signed up.</content><link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/175728280483395384/5617094056347211708/comments/default/9116247704912048881'/><link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/175728280483395384/5617094056347211708/comments/default/9116247704912048881'/><link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://openresearch.sebpaquet.net/2009/05/scibarcamp-ii-toronto.html?showComment=1242074220000#c9116247704912048881' title=''/><author><name>Eva</name><uri>http://www.blogger.com/profile/01285845872507338464</uri><email>noreply@blogger.com</email></author><thr:in-reply-to xmlns:thr='http://purl.org/syndication/thread/1.0' href='http://openresearch.sebpaquet.net/2009/05/scibarcamp-ii-toronto.html' ref='tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-175728280483395384.post-5617094056347211708' source='http://www.blogger.com/feeds/175728280483395384/posts/default/5617094056347211708' type='text/html'/></entry></feed>
